A friend of a friend asked me to draw him something based on his self picture. In that picture he is playing his guitar while sitting on the floor, and he asked me to change it to sitting on a chair. So I made him this. Thanks for requesting! ^_^

Flower Day

It was around six months ago when my campus friend Dey asked me to draw her something, before I totally forgot it. Sorry, Dey... *bow*

Dey is a nice girl who loves flowers. Whenever we go to graduations, she has her own taste in bouquets as gifts to her graduating friends (sometimes I'm sure she keeps ones for herself, hahah). It's a common thing here to give flowers to those who are graduated. Also, I don't know much about this but she has this hint of liking Japan. Especially on Japan's sakura trees. Then I remembered my campus trip to Kebun Raya Cibodas (Cibodas Botanical Garden) years ago where I found some sakura trees there, and that became my inspiration in making this. I hope you'll like it, Dey!

Trivia: I had been told that Cibodas' sakura trees bloom twice a year.

UPDATE! (24 April 2016)
I just realized that I had created an artwork with same title and both of these are requested pieces. ^^;

Spring (Colored)

I heard that spring comes after winter, brings flowers and leaves along with winter's leftover breeze. She wakes bears and squirrels gently as she spreads a faint scent of buds. Slowly she warms up the world.

I have never experienced spring since I live in a two-seasoned country. We always have dry and wet season so I never fully understand what spring is. Nevertheless, I like the idea of spring, especially at how it becomes inspiration in fashion. Spring fashion trends usually are colorful, right?

This doodle is the same thing from my previous, previous post. At that time I had no idea of which colors I should use, but the word 'spring' itself helped me to choose. The early spring, based on books and movies I consumed, gives me a sense of pale colors, like pink-rose buds that aren't big enough to be seen, or like the colors of grass between melting snow. Oh, how I miss spring before I know her.

I'm afraid that I have taken her for granted. She is the one who opened my eyes to not being picky on careers, who brought me new experiences, who sprinkled on me some fairy dust that changed me to a better and luckier person. She is Mbak Arum, an unexpected stranger who hides surprises behind her back.

We met for the first time around 2009, when I just entered university. She lived next door with her aunt and cousin, but then she moved to a dorm far from our neighborhood. I lost her contact and we stopped seeing each other for years, until she uploaded pictures of cappuccinos on her Facebook. That moment was like a start button that was pushed again. Our wheel of destiny started rolling again.

Mbak Arum is a fairy godmother. Lately I can't sleep well because of her, hahahah. I can't help but think that I will be so frail without her. I had told her my deep thoughts of her but I think it's not enough. Like I said earlier, I'm afraid that I have taken her for granted. Nevertheless, I will always support her through anything I can do. Mbak Arum, I might had said it the last time we met, thank you, thank you very much.

Cotton Slumber (Colored)

Do you still remember my previous post Cotton Slumber? I had just colored it today and this is the result. The cotton field, if we have to call it so, is blue, with little cotton balls growing and flying off. Yes they are flying up, not dropping down. Oh, and here is another version of coloring I made. I can't let go the purple nuance off it.

Today's doodle. Spring. Ink on paper.
Will be scanned soon!

The Guitar Man

My friend Wiwid asked me to make a cartoon version of himself. Whoa it had been so long since the last time I made an illustration direct from photo like this! His photo was quite easy to adapt since there was no heavy detail. Except that guitar, hahahah. Thanks for requesting, Wiwid!

Sad Hair Day

Sorry for creating such a gloomy scratch here. It wasn't my intention. Again, this is my not-so-seriously-created artwork aka another doodle. Blank space on a paper is really helping you find your surprises. By surprises I mean some things like this.

This drawing reminds me of Mulan, one of Disney Princesses who had saved China. To be honest I had forgotten the whole story since I watched it when I was very young, but I still remember how she cut off her long hair before disguising as a man. I thought it was like a start line for her to grab her courage.

Well, this doodle wasn't inspired by her but the outcome made me remember her.

Last year I said that I want to start giving out greetings whenever big days come. I still try to stay that way. Maybe I shall try making artworks for those special occasion too, hahah. Happy New Year!
