Another week, another story. This time I will tell you the story behind this artwork, which is part of another series called "Two Okay People." This series was inspired by a platonic friendship between a young woman and a young man. Their friendship was only superficial and simple, so I included minimal details in the artwork. Each piece in the series represents different phases in their friendship.
As the first part of the series, this artwork shows how they met. Like how every relationship starts, their friendship began with a fateful encounter. They were in their own worlds until the moment they passed by each other. The simplicity of the situation was like an eclipse: so natural yet so "peak." Speaking of the eclipse, that's how I illustrated their meeting in a literal way.
I also added a little highlight where their feet are approaching each other. Even they did not know what was about to happen as a continuation of the moment. This, I believe, applies to all encounters between strangers. Every relationship, whether it be friendship or otherwise, starts with that initial, often unnoticed, moment of connection.
The simplicity of the artwork reflects the simplicity of their initial encounter. It’s a visual representation of how two people, living their own separate lives, can suddenly find their paths crossing. The minimal details emphasize the plain and straightforwardness of this beginning phase.
It all starts with plain nihilism.
There are no expectations, no assumptions, just two people meeting by chance. It’s a reminder that the most significant connections can start in the most unassuming ways.
Two Okay People series is special to me because it captures the essence of human connections in their simplest form. I tried my best to show the platonic nuance of it. It's even far from romance. I will tell you more throught the upcoming posts!
